Our Story

About Ebony Expats

For so many of us - foreign lands have become our chosen home, where we plant our roots and flourish. Yet, the journey isn't without its challenges.

Ebony Expats originated from Founder Tori Rogers’ personal desire to connect with at least 3 Black expats in Thailand during her personal relocation. What began as a desire for three Black friends grew into a vibrant community as Tori, through sharing events and resources, evolved into an on-the-ground resource for expats in Southeast Asia and globally.

Today, Ebony Expats offers consulting, relocation assistance, travel planning, and concierge services. Let’s plan your time in Thailand! Have questions? Get in touch with questions and any info about plans. Thank you!

Tori’s Expat Story and

How Ebony Expats Was Created

Hi! I'm Tori, from Texas, living in Thailand since 2017.

Seven years ago now (time flies!), I made the decision to relocate from Texas to Thailand. It was after a corporate layoff. I started making plans to move to Los Angeles or New York to go deeper with my work in marketing/media/events, BUT there was also something in me that felt like there was more out there to see, explore, and create in this world and within myself.

A few years prior to this layoff, I had bookmarked an island in Thailand, and honestly I didn’t think I would get to experience the country until way down the line. Up until this point, I had only daydreamt about island hopping from my cubicle and I had launched different side hustles trying to figure out a way I could eventually work for myself and live on my own terms…anywhere in the world.

And now, this layoff had sparked me to think outside of the box and America. And Thailand was calling…

Within 2 months, I packed and/or sold everything and moved to Thailand.

At the time of my move, I had never traveled outside of North America and had no idea what to expect. Like so many of us on this journey, I searched online for resources and communities living abroad.

I personally wanted to connect with at least 3 other Black expats living in Bangkok, but couldn't find an active community bringing people together. So, I created "Black in Bangkok" on Meetup while packing for my move. A month after moving to Bangkok, I hosted my first meetup. We created a Line group chat that became a safe space and community resource that quickly grew to over 500 engaged members, representing 12 countries and 28+ cities and diverse backgrounds - in government, education, entertainment, Human Resources, entrepreneurship, and more. Very soon into my expat journey, I established Ebony Expats LLC.

Over the years, I've brought Black expats, travelers, and locals together. We pride ourselves on our milestones and track record of personally supporting hundreds of expats connect and thrive abroad. More than a community, Ebony Expats has evolved into a travel company dedicated to crafting seamless relocations and unforgettable experiences. Today, Ebony Expats offers specialized destination management, travel planning, and on-the-ground support to our clients. And it’s been an honor to build a space

I've been right where you are – staying true to you and designing life on your own terms. I know the magic of taking a leap into this journey, holding space for our foundation while also welcoming the next chapter and version of ourselves. As one expat recently shared with me:

"Living abroad gave me the opportunity to become the person I was meant to be.
I became a different version of myself".

- Ed, Singapore, expat 18+ years

This move changed my life. I’ve seen how this experience collectively brings us more room for healing, belonging, and freedom. I'm honored to be a part of your trip or relocation.

Welcome to your next chapter - let's get it!

-Tori
